Are you a beginner bag maker? Having trouble picking hardware?

Posted by Joanne Rush on

Choosing the right hardware can be confusing when you're starting out. Sometimes you want to have things on hand for when you just want to make a bag instead of having to order and wait for your order to arrive.  For this I personally suggest the following as must haves:

  • 25mm snaphooks
  • 25mm slider
  • 25mm D rings
  • 25mm strap ends
  • rivets
  • magnetic snaps
  • zipper pulls
  • zipper tape

You will find this to be the most used items when starting out. Some bags may use 20mm (3/4 inch) or 38mm (1.5 inch) hardware but you will find 25mm (one inch) the most popular for bagmaking.

Once you have a few bags under your belt you can start adding some of the other gorgeous hardware pieces such as strap connectors (my favourite are the hero/sidekick), magnetic locks and triangle rings for example.

If you are just starting there are a few bag patterns I highly suggest.
